Model Surgeon and the EU AI Act

Effective date: 1 August 2026 · This page restates and expands §5 of our attorney-reviewed Privacy Policy.

What Model Surgeon is, under the Act

Model Surgeon is an inspection and editing tool for machine-learning model files that you supply. It is not itself an AI system placed on the market for a regulated purpose: it never executes your model — files are parsed structurally, edited, measured, and re-exported. The judgment, deployment context, and intended purpose of any AI system you build with its output remain yours.

How it helps YOUR obligations

Every export ships with a signed operation record (exactly what changed, in order), an auto-generated model card structured around Annex IV-style technical documentation, and free public verification — one changed byte anywhere flips the verdict to TAMPERED. Provenance Compare supports model-heritage questions. These are designed to serve providers' and deployers' documentation, transparency, and traceability duties for the systems they place on the market.

Honest limits

Attestations prove what happened inside a session and file integrity — they are not a conformity assessment, a risk classification, or a warranty of any model's safety, performance, or legality. Classifying your system under the Act, and meeting its obligations, is your responsibility; our records are evidence you can use, not compliance you can outsource.

Data handling

Models are parsed, never executed, never linked to accounts, and deleted at session end. Full details: Privacy Policy.
